Designers are meant to be loved, not to be understood.
— Fabien Barral
Hi, my name is Khrystyna Ignasiv and I am an artist, designer and illustrator. My keen interest in both digital and traditional arts can probably be considered as an obsession by some. Art for me is more then just a career choice or a hobby – it’s who I am and what I love.
My love for graphic design comes from my passion to create while solving problems. For me graphic design is like a wild combining of art and math classes – I get to create something stunning while figuring out the best solution for the project. Being creative, coming up with great ideas and solving problems while making a living doing what you love is an ultimate reward for me.
MY BACKGROUND
A desire to create and interest in art followed me through life from very young age. Growing up in a small Carpathian town in Ukraine, famous for it’s art and craftsmanship probably had it’s impact on my love for art and future career choice. I have been paining and drawing since I was about four years old. At nine I convinced my parents to sign me up for art classes, which was my after school activity for over five years. In 2001 I moved from Ukraine to United States, where in High School I took all available art classes and worked on every art project there was, from illustrations for school newspaper to set designs for plays.
Graphic design become a clear career choice for me in my first year of college after I signed up for my very first digital art class (it was a beginners course on Design Fundamentals). That first design class made me fall in love with graphic design and digital arts. I was eager to learn it all – the concepts of design and layout, typography, branding, color theory. The Media & Communication Arts program at Macomb Community College included both fine art and digital media classes, which was an ideal combination for me. Two and a half years later I graduated with two A.A.S. Media & Communication Arts degrees with specialties in Digital Design & Layout and Art for Advertisement.
I got my first graphic design job at a RH Publishing company in Troy, Michigan in October of 2008. And while learning the tricks of the trade in the industry setting, I also continued my formal education. In June, 2011 I graduated Baker College with Bachelor’s Degree in Digital Media Design.
I have been working in the field for over three years now, and my experiences include working as in-house designer for RH Graphics as well as working independently as a freelance graphic designer. Today I do it all, from traditional art to digital illustration, graphic design, digital layout, web design, flash animation and video editing. While working at RH Publishing my responsibilities of a graphic designer included everything form coming up with conceptual design ideas, working on design layouts, editing images and preparing files for print to developing and managing client’s websites, creating flash animations and editing video clips. As a freelance designer I have also worked on a variety of different projects that ranged form conceptual logo design, corporate identity packages, advertising and promotional materials, product packaging design and layout to website design, development and maintenance.
As a designer, my goal is to create unique, thoughtful and appropriate design solutions for each project that I take on. I pride myself on being creative, resourceful and detail oriented graphic designer, who is able to develop intriguing solutions under high-pressure situations.
